Renowned Irish actor Andrew Scott plays the lead role of Tom Ripley, a sociopathic con artist central to Patricia Highsmith’s crime novels and numerous adaptations. Ripley, a seasoned criminal, takes pride in his ability to evade capture, although he lives in constant paranoia, always fearing the day he may be apprehended.
Scott had a successful year in 2023 with his role in the acclaimed film All of Us Strangers, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He is also recognized for his performances in popular series like Fleabag and His Dark Materials, as well as notable films such as Spectre, 1917, and Pride. Up next, he will star in the Netflix action comedy film Back in Action alongside Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx.
Johnny Flynn plays Richard “Dickie” Greenleaf.
Tom Ripley is enlisted by Richard “Dickie” Greenleaf’s father to locate Dickie during his stay in Italy and persuade him to return to New York. Despite Dickie’s reluctance to leave behind his time with Marge Sherwood, he forms an unexpected bond with Tom. However, as Tom’s infatuation with Dickie intensifies, Dickie begins to harbor suspicions about Tom’s motives.
Johnny Flynn, a British actor known for his roles in various Netflix Originals like Scrooge, Lovesick, The Dig, and Operation Mincemeat, takes on the character of Richard “Dickie” Greenleaf. Additionally, Flynn has showcased his talents as a singer-songwriter and has portrayed iconic figures such as David Bowie in Stardust and starred alongside Anthony Hopkins in One Life. He is also the lead singer and songwriter for the band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit.
Dakota Fanning plays the role of Marge Sherwood
Dakota Fanning takes on the role of Marge Sherwood, a captivating young woman who is attentive to her friend Dickie Greenleaf and cautious around his new acquaintance Tom Ripley. Fanning’s portrayal of Marge can be seen in the Netflix series, where she brings her extensive acting experience to the screen, having started her career in Hollywood alongside her sister Elle Fanning from a young age.
Fanning’s early breakthrough came with her role in the 2001 film I Am Sam, which earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, marking a significant achievement for her at the time. She went on to star in a range of notable films including Uptown Girls, War of the Worlds, Charlotte’s Web, and Coraline. In recent years, she has been involved in projects such as The Alienist, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Equalizer 3, The First Lady, and Viena and the Fantomes. Fanning is set to star in The Watchers, a supernatural horror film slated for release this June.
Joining Fanning in Ripley are Eliot Sumner as Dickie’s friend Freddie Miles and Maurizio Lombardi as Inspector Pietro Ravini.
Ripley is set to premiere on Thursday, April 4, exclusively on Netflix.
